Cleaning and Care Kit includes:

1.  Barrel Cleaning Kit portion includes the following:

Everything you need to clean, neutralize, and sterilize your oak barrel for re-use or storage (CLICK HERE to purchase a mini oak barrel.)  When you first receive your barrel from us, you just need to cure it (see instructions to cure when you receive your barrel).  You don't need to use these cleaning products until you have used your new barrel after 2 or 3 batches or after 1-2 years of not using it.   Included in this portion of the kit is:

1oz Oxy-San/Barrel-Kleen
1oz Citric Acid/Barrel Neutralizing Acid
2 Campden Storage/Sterilizing Tablets.

Detailed Cleaning Instructions:
1) Dissolve the Oxy-San/Barrel-Kleen into 1 U.S. gallon of warm water. Fill the barrel with this cleaning solution and soak for 24 hours. Empty and rinse 3 times with hot water.  2) Dissolve the Citric Acid/Neutralizing Acid into 1 gallon of warm water. Fill the barrel with this neutralizing solution and soak for 15 minutes. Empty and rinse the barrel 3 times with hot water.  3) To re-char the barrel interior, drain the barrel for 3 hours. Place a butane torch in the bung and spigot hole and re-char the inside.  4) When storing the barrel or prior to re-use, dissolve the 2 Campden storage/sterilizing tablets in 1 gallon of cool water. Fill the barrel with the solution. Swish around for a few minutes and rinse 3 times with hot water.  To prevent the barrel from drying out and minimize the possibility of contamination, barrels should always be stored full with spirits or sterilizing solution.  Barrels left without liquid will dry out!

2.  Barrel Care Kit portion includes the following to care and maintain your barrel:

Barrel Wax - As no glue or nails are used when making our barrels, barrels may leak from the head or stave seams or even through the wood. This can happen with any barrel and is a normal part of the barrel aging process. To stop leaks, apply a small amount of Barrel Wax to the leaking area.

2 Campden Storing/Sterilizing Tablets (Get 12 Tablets more if you order an additional tablet pack) - Barrel Storing/Sterilizing Tablets are pre-measured doses of sulfites formulated to kill bacteria and inhibit the growth of wild yeast and microbes in the barrel.  When storing or cleaning your barrel between uses, dissolve the appropriate quantity of tablets in water. Pour mixture in the barrel and fill completely with additional water.  Store in cool damp conditions if possible. Rinse 3x prior to use.  Sanitize your barrel with a Barrel Cleaning Kit after 2 or 3 uses.

Directions for Tablets:
To store or clean your barrel between uses, dissolve tablets in a glass of water. Pour into barrel and top off with water.
